School improvement programmes ensure that well researched systems and ideas can be developed, nurtured and deeply embedded into the culture of the school. The benefits of a 'Follow Up and Follow Through' approach mean that we work together to ensure that everyone has an understanding of the why, recognises what they need to do, and engages in the process of evaluating effectiveness.
The School Improvement Programmes are intended for working together in long term partnerships to develop strategies, systems and processes that embed long term sustainable change. Programmes involve a blend of direct face to face support in your school and interim remote coaching and support.
I have extensive experience in supporting schools, networks and Multi Academy Trust groups in implementing School Improvement Programmes. Whilst each programme has a distinct focus and combination of support, they really come to life when we spend time understanding the specific context of the school, or group of schools and adapt the programme to specifically meet your needs. Many schools find it really useful to undertake an Evaluative Review ahead of the Programme, or to include the Review within the programme itself. Read on for more detail about the programmes.
Developing Strength in Leadership and Teaching
A one year programme that works with leaders and teachers focussed on four key development areas (from the Four Threads for School Improvement):
During the programme, there will be training provided to introduce some key working practices to enable rapid and sustainable improvement. There is close engagement with senior leaders to grow the overall leadership capacity within the school or across the Trust. There is a significant opportunity to work with emerging leaders to begin to realise some of their potential to support the development of strong and effective practice.
There is also close engagement with teachers and teaching assistants to support them in taking ownership of professional development, and to use a key resource called A Shared Language for Learning and Teaching to provide a coherent framework for consistent professional development.

Developing Structures to Improve Accountability
This programme looks at embedding a number of structures and approaches that will empower a wide range of stakeholders, from teachers to Governors, to play an active part in taking responsibility for their own accountability, leading to a wider range of colleagues able to positively contribute to the self-improving system within school.
The programme will focus on how to develop the teams within the school, looking at the core purpose of different teams, and how their practices can be refined in order to allow them to improve the accountability of the team, and how their evaluative work feeds into the school improvement plans.
Team Leaders, Senior Leaders and Governors will be closely involved with the programme. Where new structures are put in place, the training and support within the programme will enable you to identify talent within the school and support them in developing their leadership skills and capacity.

Growing Excellence in Leadership and Learning
This programme will either build on the success of the Developing Effective Leadership and Teaching, or will support that push towards delivering an Outstanding Offer. The programme is again rooted in the four key development areas (from the Four Threads for School Improvement):
During the programme there will be opportunity to reflect on how the current vision, systems and processes are creating the right culture for success, and using this understanding to define the adaptations to existing practices that will bring about excellent outcomes in all areas, resulting in outstanding outcomes for the pupils in your school.
Leaders will be given coaching and support, and provided with reference points for success that build on the evidence available. There will be a significant emphasis on project design, and the provision of the adapted support to ensure momentum is created resulting in highly refined approaches to learning matched to your individual vision.

Growing Excellence in School Governance
Effective governance is an essential part of developing excellence in the leadership of the school. Governors are supported to develop their working practices in the Four Threads for School Improvement:
Throughout the programme, governors will be provided with support, including working collaboratively to complete monitoring and evaluation that leads to highly effective support and challenge for the strategic leadership of the school.
The governors will be supported to walk the tightrope between being strategic, and knowing enough operational detail to enable the strategic input to be relevant and developmental.
